Hello everyone and thank you for visiting my blog! My name is Rowan Kirk. I am a woman in my mid-twenties who loves watching films, reading books and baking. I especially love spending time with my sister Verity.
During the COVID-19 lockdown my sister Verity (who lives away from home in London) and I started doing weekly film nights together. We would start a film at the exact same time, and send text messages to each other sharing our thoughts, feelings, jokes and film theories as we watched. We also did a movie marathon on Sister Day (see below*). We spent a lot of time deciding whether to watch films we loved as kids or try films which we had not seen before. Sometimes we alternate depending on our mood.
Examples of films we have watched over 2020 are Hook, (one of our childhood favourites, this was the film that started it all), A Little Princess (another film we both loved as children), Short Term 12 (performances are great, we had never seen it before)and The Green Mile ( I had never seen it before, it made us both cry.)
*There is a Sister Day! (I only found out about it last year) It is the first Sunday of August every year.
There is also a Brother’s Day on May 24th every year as well.
For some time, I had been thinking of turning these sisterly film nights into a blog to record my thoughts and feelings on certain films (with my sisters input as well). I have depression and anxiety so I thought this might be a way to build my confidence. This has been one of my New Year’s resolutions getting started.
